This painting is all about the distant mountains as they are framed by the foreground. This was just a great day to be painting on location.

I fondly remember painting this in the early evening when the light shifted and these magical colors were painted across the landscape. In particular, the mountains picked up a unique pink glow from the setting sun.
This painting was inspired by some studies I did on a recent trip. Late in the day, the landscape started to glow with the evening light. In particular, the distant mountains took on a unique pink tint that was quite remarkable.

If you look closely, you'll notice that the town name (Los Altos) is misspelled in this painting. I noticed the spelling error as I was completing the painting, but I liked how it was a result of just painting in the moment. I had not been thinking about the letters, words or content - I was just making marks in a very right-brain way. I decided not to correct the spelling error because it was an honest plein air rendering and I like how each piece is an origional attempt to capture a brief moment in time.
