I painting this on a group outing with the California Art Club. There are times that I need to push through inertia even when I'm not feeling inspired to get started on a painting, and was one of those times. The great thing about painting with friends is that it pushes me to paint subjects that I might no pick on my own - and I was happy with the result.
I painted this along 17-mile drive in Carmel on a day when the fog was undulating in and out right along the coast. Oil on linen.
Painted on location in the eastern sierra mountains. Oil on linen panel.
This is from a backpacking trip in the high sierras. I hiked in a couple of hours with my painting gear to this gorgeous lake, and spent the day trying to capture a bit of my feeling of awe being out there. Oil on linen mounted on board.
I love working en plein air, and this piece was created during the early hours of the morning at the seaside. The combination of the gentle, muted sky and the vibrant waters brought me a deep sense of peace.

I have always loved depicting the intricacies of the ocean’s blues. This piece is no different; on this day the water was vibrant and I wanted to capture that vividness. I hope this painting can bring a slice of the ocean to life.
